Why should humans get all the thrills on vacation? Dog parks are emerging all over the country, welcoming the growing number of pet owners who bring their furry friends along on trips. “Parks are very important to travelers, who may have their dogs cooped up in the car for hours at a time,” says Becca Barnett of BringFido.com, a website focused on pet-friendly hotels and events. Since the world’s first dog park opened in 1979 in Berkeley, Calif., they’ve grown more sophisticated with toys, fountains and off-leash trails, says Barnett. Beau’s Dream Dog Park was an award-winner from the start. So much so, BringFido.com included the dog park in their list of the 10 Best Amazing Dog Parks Across the USA. Built by Beneful’s Dream Team of DIY network star Jason Cameron, pet expert Arden Moore and Interior Design Star Nate Berkus, its design was inspired by Angela Bauman and her dog Beau after they won Purina Beneful’s 2012 Dream Dog Park Contest. Their prize included $10,000, a one-year supply of Beneful brand dry dog food and a $500,000 in-kind grant to Lancaster city for the park’s makeover. If you spend $500,000 on a park, it’s going to be pretty amazing. The amusement park-themed dog park features synthetic turf, water splash pads, tunnels, a tennis ball tree, shade structures, a rubber path and a roller-coaster footbridge.  The park is maintained by the City of Lancaster, PA and is FREE to enter from sunrise to sunset.
